The world’s first LIVE interpretation of ABC’s SMASH HIT television show QI comes to Australia.

With the supremely interesting STEPHEN FRY

and the inimitable ALAN DAVIES

Host Stephen Fry and Alan Davies, joined by a line-up of celebrity panellists (to be announced prior to each show) present QI LIVE in Perth, Melbourne and Brisbane in a tour commencing in October this year. The buzzers, the theme tune and the QI set are all packed and on their way Down Under to take part in what we have come to know and love on television as QI, the world’s most impossible TV quiz!

Stephen Fry is an actor, screenwriter, author, playwright, journalist, poet, comedian, television presenter and film director. His foray into documentary-making saw him fronting the Emmy Award-winning The Secret Life of the Manic Depressive in 2006, and in the same year he appeared in the genealogy series Who Do You Think You Are?, tracing his family tree to discover his Jewish ancestry. His six-part travel series Stephen Fry in America was shown on the BBC in 2008 and received huge acclaim across the United States and Australia. Quite Interestingly, Fry is also a Director of Norwich City Football Club.

Stephen will be joined on stage by the comedian, writer and actor Alan Davies.  Davies, who stars in the TV mystery series Jonathan Creek, is widely known in Australia as the quick-witted foil to Stephen Fry and permanent fall guy on QI. Davies has appeared on every episode of QI (including the never-broadcast pilot episode) except one!

Announcing the tour, Producer Andrew Kay said: “QI is smart, intelligent, curious and funny. It has become something of a phenomenon, and it’s must-see television in my household as well as hundreds and thousands of Australian homes. AKA is very pleased to be bringing this unique show to Australia in collaboration with FremantleMedia Enterprises, taking what we see in the lounge room to Australia’s theatres.”

QI has been nominated for four BAFTA Awards and in 2006 Stephen won the coveted Rose D’Or for Best Game Show Host.

Dustin Lockett, Vice President, Live Experiences and FremantleMedia Enterprises, said: “We are very excited to bring the successful QI television show to life for the first time ever, and a first for our new Live Experiences division.  It’s a great way for QI’s fans to experience the show and see its acclaimed host Stephen Fry up close. We’re confident it’ll be a huge success.”

Quintessentially English and eccentric, every QI (Quite Interesting) is based on a different letter of the alphabet. The series started on 11 September 2003, the brainchild of long-time TV comedy guru John Lloyd, producer of Not the Nine O’clock News, Spitting Image and Blackadder, and now airs on primetime ABC1 and Foxtel to a huge and delighted audience.

On the face of it QI is a TV comedy panel game show like any other; it has a chairman and four contestants who are asked questions and get points for their answers.  But there the resemblance ends. Points are awarded for the most interesting answers, regardless of whether they are correct or even relevant. Conversely, heavy penalties are dished out to guests who suggest the most obvious answers, which generally turn out to be wrong.

The theatre show, mixing Stephen and Alan's perfect comedic timing with some of Australia's favourite comedians, will be a great way for fans and first-timers alike to enjoy QI's unique mix of facts, fantasy and world-class banter.
